Director of Human Resources
HR Director
North Salt Lake, Utah | On-site
Our client, a well-established and financially healthy mid-sized company based in North Salt Lake, Utah, is looking for an HR Director to lead people operations for a workforce of 300–350 employees. This is a rare opportunity to step into an organization known for its long-tenured, close-knit team — many employees have spent the majority of their careers here — and to help protect and build on that culture as the company grows.
About Our Client
Our client operates in a hands-on, blue-collar/service-oriented environment and has built its reputation on stability, loyalty, and a genuine family feel. Leadership values people who stick around, and it shows: this organization has unusually low turnover and a workforce that takes real pride in where they work. The HR Director will report directly to the Owner/Controller and will be a key partner in keeping that culture strong through a period of continued growth.
About the Role
The HR Director will own the full HR function for the organization, from payroll and benefits through employee relations, compliance, and talent. This person will manage one HR Generalist and will be the go-to resource for HR/employment law knowledge across the company. Success in this role looks like a smoothly run payroll and benefits operation, strong and trusted relationships with employees at every level, a clean 401(k) audit, and a hiring/onboarding process that keeps pace with the company's needs — all while reinforcing a positive, fun, and people-first culture.
What You'll Do
- Manage and process payroll for 300–350 employees, ensuring accuracy and full compliance.
- Own the benefits program end-to-end — manage the broker relationship, negotiate plans and rates, and lead Open Enrollment.
- Serve as the primary point of contact for employee relations, handling concerns with fairness, consistency, and discretion.
- Apply strong working knowledge of employment law and regulations to guide disciplinary actions and keep the company compliant.
- Lead full-cycle recruiting, onboarding, training, and offboarding for all positions.
- Help plan and run the company's 401(k) audit.
- Manage and develop one HR Generalist direct report.
- Champion a positive, engaged, and fun workplace culture while staying attentive to employee needs and morale.
What We're Looking For
Required:
- Prior management experience, including leading and developing direct reports.
- Hands-on experience managing and processing payroll for a comparable-size workforce.
- Experience managing and negotiating employee benefits, including running Open Enrollment and working directly with a benefits broker.
- Solid experience handling employee relations issues.
- Strong working knowledge of employment laws, regulations, and disciplinary processes.
- Experience owning recruiting and onboarding, training, and offboarding.
Preferred:
- Experience supporting or leading a 401(k) audit.
- Background in a blue-collar, service-industry, or similar hands-on environment.
- Multi-site or multi-state HR experience.
- Experience at a similarly sized mid-sized company, rather than at a large corporation.
Culture Fit
Culture is a top priority for this search. Our client is looking for someone with strong HR fundamentals who is equally focused on the human side of the job — someone who can build trust across a tenured, tight-knit team, keep things fun, and be genuinely sensitive to employee needs.
